Writing practice... about broken hearts.

We are going to watch a video, and write as much as we can.

I want you to take sides. Boys are going to pay attention to the left part of the screen, and girls to the right. I want you explain what the each of the characters in the video were doing that day. Boys describe what the boy was doing, girls describe what the girl was doing.

We don't talk anymore - video

First, take notes, then write sentences and finally write a couple of paragraphs using some connectors and time expressions. Use some of the following:

1. Sequence connectors

At first / firstly / first of all / to begin with / secondly / thirdly / finally / in the end / afterwards / after that / then / next

2.Time expressions
Last winter/summer /  a month/year later  / the next morning  / that afternoon /  on the following/previous day
in the morning, in the afternoon, at night

3.Time connectors
when / while / before /  after / until / during / as soon as / by the time / once

Now, let's see if you understand the lyrics!

Extreme adjectives

Normal adjectives can be modified by "very".

Ex: You are very good at maths.
       The house was very big.

Extreme adjectives have a much stronger meaning than their normal equivalents. You don't use "very" with extreme adjectives, you use "absolutely".

Ex: You are very brilliant.
The house was very enourmous. > The house was absolutely enormous.

Check page 25 of your students' book or 86-87 of your workbook.

Remember to copy this list (and personalise it with colours or drawings) on the vocabulary section of your notebook.

The first part of the following video is a short story about Elissa. Watch!

 Past Continuous story

After the story there is a grammar explanation, with a timeline, very visual.

Some vocabulary...  What's "a stalker"? What's "chase"? Can you find a synonym of "graveyard" in the story?

Could you write a similar story? We'll try.. 😉

Here's another video. Maybe you don't like it so much because it's older, but I'm sure it'll be useful.

Vocabulary section - Instructions

Hello everyone,

What do you need in the vocabulary section of your notebook?

Write lists of vocabulary from the unit, or just mentioned in class. Instead of always writing just the translation, you can draw the object, or write a synonym, and write sentences using the new words to talk about yourself, or your family and friends, so that it is easier to remember.

WELCOME UNIT:

ST B / p. 5

Ex 2: Choose 7 of the following adjectives and write sentences about your family or friends. Choose the most difficult words for you.

ambitious, big-headed, brave, confused, disappointed, embarrassed, excited, fed up, honest, lonely, loyal, shy, talkative, upset.

Ex 4 When do you do the these household tasks?

clean the floor, put the rubbish out, do the gardening, make your bed, tidy up, have a drink.

Ex 7 Write sentences using the following phrases to talk about your family and friends'  hobbies.

to be a big fan of sth, to be mad about sth, to be quite interested in sth, to be (not) into sth, to be keen on sth.

Unit 1 - The look

Cut a picture of a man or a woman from a magazine (A5) and glue it to the vocabulary section of your notebook. Then, label all the clothes and accessories he or she is wearing (10 items at least).
